TOWSON – Cathy Thomas, principal at Cromwell Valley Regional Magnet Elementary School, and Dr. Kandice Taylor, principal at Deer Park Middle Magnet School, were named the 2018-19 Elementary and Secondary Principals of the Year at last night’s Teacher of the Year and Principal of the Year Ceremony.

“Cathy Thomas and Dr. Kandice Taylor are the types of leaders any of us would want for our own children’s schools,” said Interim Superintendent Verletta White. “They are patient, firm, committed to excellence, fun, and empowering. They know how to adapt and adjust so that we are always moving forward. They can and do work on the big issues—setting a vision and bringing groups together. But they also call our students by name, cheer for their successes, and comfort them in times of challenge. I thank Cathy and Kandice and all of our excellent principals for being a part of our Team BCPS family.”

In addition to Thomas and Taylor, four other Principal of the Year finalists were honored during Wednesday’s ceremony. They are:

Elementary

  • Renee Jenkins, Deer Park Elementary
  • Drue Whitney, Red House Run Elementary
Secondary
  • C. Michelle Anderson, Eastern Technical High
  • Deborah Magness, Cockeysville Middle
