Team BCPS Day "blue" us away

Annual celebration of Baltimore County schools continues to grow

TOWSON - January 11 was another Team BCPS Day for the record books!

To celebrate pride in Baltimore County Public Schools, stakeholders photographed themselves wearing blue and posted their images on social media with #BCPSblue. This year, Team BCPS Day yielded nearly 700 tweets, reaching 217,137 unique viewers, and #BCPSblue trended on Twitter in the Baltimore region for most of the day.

The school system's library media specialists emerged as superstars of Team BCPS Day 2018 with their high level of participation and their creative displays of books with blue covers or ‘blue' in the title. Schools shared artwork, writing, and fun music videos. The spirit of the day was incorporated into lessons including making blue slime in science class, flying drones with BCPS banners, and imagining how favorite book characters would celebrate Team BCPS Day.

Families posed in blue before leaving for work and school. Business and educational partners - including Baltimore County Public Library, Chesapeake Bank of Maryland, Community College of Baltimore County (Dundalk Outward Bound), Destinations Credit Union, Discovery Education, The Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools, First Financial Federal Credit Union, Maryland Zoo, Morgan State University, SECU, and Towson University - joined in the celebration to boost BCPS. The day ended with an educator's appreciation night at a Towson Tigers men's basketball game, with hundreds of BCPS educators enjoying free admission and some being honored from the court.

"On Team BCPS Day, you can see the tremendous unity in BCPS, and you can feel it," said Interim Superintendent Verletta White. "I had the great pleasure to spend part of my day with Catonsville High School student leaders and a group of teachers who are also BCPS graduates and with the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. Across the county, in our schools and beyond our schools, people celebrated BCPS accomplishments and pride. It was a great way to launch the second half of the school year."

Here are this year's honorees for best BCPS blue-themed images of the day:
