Secondary schools to be focus of Southeast Area Advisory Council meeting The Southeast Area Education Advisory Council will examine secondary school issues during its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. at Deep Creek Middle School, 1000 S. Superintendent Dance to host the first of six community meetings Baltimore County Public Schools’ Superintendent Dr. S. Dallas Dance will host the first in a series of six community meetings to meet the public and discuss education and school related issues with interested citizens. The first public meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Woodlawn High School at 1801 Woodlawn Drive in Woodlawn. The meetings are part of Dr. Dance’s commitment to have timely, transparent, and clear communications, and to be responsive to community requests and interests. The meetings also are designed to help him better understand the issues and concerns affecting education in Baltimore County, and community feedback will be used to help shape the Superintendent’s strategic plan. Superintendent Dance to host community meeting at Loch Raven High School Baltimore County Public Schools’ Superintendent Dr. S. The public meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Loch Raven High School at 1212 Cowpens Avenue in Towson. The meetings are part of Dr. Dance’s commitment to have timely, transparent, and clear communications, and to be responsive to community requests and interests. The meetings also are designed to help him better understand the issues and concerns affecting education in Baltimore County, and community feedback will be used to help shape the Superintendent’s strategic plan. The Baltimore Sun’s Newsmaker Forum to feature Dr. Dance Baltimore County Public Schools’ Superintendent Dr. S. Dallas Dance will be the featured guest of a Newsmaker Forum sponsored by The Baltimore Sun. beginning at 7:00 p.m. at George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology, 938 York Road, Towson. The forum, which is open to the public, is the latest in a series of events that focus on newsmakers in the Baltimore and Maryland region. Moderated by Sun Maryland Voices Editor Andrew A. Green, the forum will feature a discussion with Dr. Dance about education issues, including those central to Baltimore County Public Schools, as well as opportunities for the public to pose questions to the superintendent. Maryland’s War of 1812 Bicentennial Celebration comes to Charlesmont Elementary School Charlesmont Elementary School will host a Defender’s Day celebration at 10:00 a.m. at the school, located at 7800 W. Collingham Drive in Dundalk. Maryland’s bicentennial of the War of 1812 will be observed on the school grounds where a portion of the historic Battle of Baltimore occurred. During the celebration, students will hoist a Fort McHenry “15-star" commemorative flag while a fife-and-drum corps from the Fort McHenry National Historic Site will play music from that era. Students from Patapsco High School’s JROTC unit will join in the event as they march to the flag area at the school, where Charlesmont students from Boy Scout Cub Pack 342 will raise the commemorative flag. In addition, during the morning, Maryland Public Television will launch its new Thinkport interactive media and lesson plans to reflect the school’s local heritage. Back-to-School Nights 2012 Part of a successful start to a school's new year is its annual Back-to-School Night, and across Baltimore County, schools are now holding Back-to-School Night activities. The events give parents an important way of learning about the school, its unique opportunities, upcoming events, volunteer and involvement activities, and other facets of school life. The events are also a good way for parents to gain information to help their children have a successful school year.
