TOWSON, MD. – Two Baltimore County cable channels – BCPS-TV on Comcast 73 and Verizon FiOS 34 and BCTV on Comcast 25 and Verizon FiOS 25 – suspended broadcasting operations today, August 15, to accommodate moving production studios to a new location. Both channels, which currently broadcast from studios in the old George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology building in Towson, are expected to resume broadcast operations on or about Thursday, August 23. While the channels are off the air, however, BCPS-TV programming may be viewed both on YouTube and on the BCPS Web site at www.bcps.org. The temporary suspension of the channels’ normal broadcasting schedules is the result of moving studio operations from the former Carver Center building to new studios located at the new Carver Center, which is located nearby at 938 York Road in Towson. The school will open to students on Monday, August 27. Since 1983, the school system’s television station has produced original interactive instructional programming, interactive DVDs, commercial satellite downlinks, and live telecasts to serve the instructional and informational needs of students, parents, educators, and citizens of Baltimore County. BCPS-TV also provides opportunities for BCPS students, staff, and stakeholders to learn about and gain experience in television and video production. Original programs airing on BCPS-TV include BCPS News, High School Sports Scene, Math Homework Helpers, SAT Review, Student Art Break, Student Production Showcase, Up Beat, The Chalkboard, and three new shows, Brain Gain, Kid Conversation, and So Easy a Kid Can Do It. BCPS-TV also records and airs public meetings of the Baltimore County Board of Education, systemwide music events, and other special activities. Baltimore County Government's television station, BCTV, airs original public affairs programming of specific interest to Baltimore county residents, as well as broadcasting relevant programs from other government agencies. Original programs airing on BCTV include Hello Baltimore County, Answering the Call, Police Report, The Time of Your Life, and Inside BCPL. These programs are available for viewing on the County's web site at www.baltimorecountymd.gov. In addition, BCTV televises Baltimore County Council meetings.
