BCPS to welcome new educators at annual New Teacher Orientation

3-day activity to introduce 600 new teachers to school system

Who: Baltimore County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. S. Dallas Dance and Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lillian Lowery will welcome about 600 new teachers who are beginning their careers as Baltimore County Public Schools’ newest educators. What: The annual BCPS New Teacher Orientation program is a high-energy, high-expectation introduction for teachers to the system’s curriculum, instruction, and assessment and orients them to other aspects of employment in Baltimore County Public Schools. The three-day event, this year called “Success from the Start," also features special guest speakers and school-based professional growth activities. When: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily from Tuesday, August 14, through Thursday, August 16, 2012. Where: Tuesday, August 14, and Thursday, August 16: Perry Hall High School (4601 Ebenezer Road, Perry Hall). From the Beltway (I-695), take Exit 32 (Belair Road) north. Follow Belair Road to Ebenezer Road and turn right onto Ebenezer. Follow Ebenezer Road to Perry Hall High School on the right. Parking is limited. Wednesday, August 15: The teachers will be engaged in professional development activities at their assigned home schools. Background: For the first and last days of the orientation, teachers will attend sessions on specialized curriculum, classroom management, and other topics. On the second day, teachers will participate in day-long professional growth activities at their assigned schools.
