Schmidt, Roddy elected to second terms as officers of Board of Education of Baltimore County

TOWSON, MD. – The Board of Education of Baltimore County re-elected both Lawrence E. Schmidt as its president and Valerie A. Roddy as its vice president during its yearly election of officers on Tuesday, July 10. A Board member since July 2009, Schmidt is a partner at Smith, Gildea & Schmidt, LLC, a law firm specializing in land use matters including zoning, development, historic preservation, environmental issues, and related litigation. He has served on the Baltimore County Zoning Commission and the Baltimore County Board of Appeals. Schmidt also has served as president of the Greater Towson Committee and on the board of the Home Builders Association of Maryland. He has volunteered for the regional Mock Trial program in association with the Maryland State Department of Education and Baltimore County Public Schools. Roddy, who was appointed to the Board in August 2008, is the chief of staff to the state deputy secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene. She formerly worked both for Baltimore County government and Baltimore County Public Schools. Board officers serve a 1-year term beginning with the July meeting of the Board each year. Both Schmidt and Roddy had served the past year as the Board’s president and vice president, respectively.
