Power outages to close 42 Baltimore County public school sites on Monday, July 2

TOWSON, MD. – Due to the effects of Friday’s storms, 42 of Baltimore County’s public schools are without power as of Sunday evening and will be closed on Monday, July 2, 2012. Immediately following the storm, 52 county school sites lost power, and many schools, administrative offices, grounds, and paved parking and walking areas were affected by fallen trees and other debris. “Our grounds crews have been working long hours under difficult conditions to restore access to our buildings, and we are working closely with BGE and county authorities to restore power on each of our campuses," said Superintendent Dr. S. Dallas Dance. “I appreciate all the work they are doing, and I want to thank our school staffs and those who have business at the schools for their patience." All activities planned for closed schools are cancelled as well. Staffs at closed school buildings will receive instructions from their principals about where to report for work on Monday. Summer school does not begin in Baltimore County schools until Monday, July 9, but all schools are staffed during summer months for those seeking to enroll students and for other business.
