TOWSON, MD. – The Mays Chapel elementary school site concept was presented to the Board of Education on May 22. Created by the architectural firm of Grimm + Parker working with the school system’s Department of Physical Facilities, the plan depicts a school located in the southwestern corner of the 20-acre property. The plan, according to BCPS Physical Facilities Executive Director Michael Sines, preserves and enhances the site’s existing fields, provides convenient access to community functions, retains the park-style concept of the property, and uses only seven to eight acres for new development. Mays Chapel community members expressed a desire to see the site’s park-style qualities retained. As currently planned, the new school would be patterned after Vincent Farm Elementary School in White Marsh. Building packages under consideration would enable project completion as early as May 2014. Illustrations of the proposed new school may be viewed at http://www.bcps.org/board/agendas/ under the May 22 archive, exhibit Q.
