BCPS to host 9th annual countywide Elementary Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Fair
Baltimore County Public Schools elementary students from across the school district will present their science projects during the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Fair at Randallstown High School, 4000 Offutt Drive, in Randallstown. Judging for the prestigious STEM Fair begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by a series of activities, demonstrations, and presentations through the day. An open house will precede the awards ceremony, featuring Superintendent Dr. Joe A. Hairston, at about 4:00 p.m.

BCPS students, educators head for China

BCPS Superintendent Dr. Joe A. Hairston will be among the educators and parents wishing bon voyage to 27 students and three educators from across Baltimore County who will be leaving for China. The group, part of a cultural exchange program that began in 2007 with the introduction of Chinese language instruction in county schools, will spend nearly eight weeks in China. This year, students from Dulaney, Hereford, Owings Mills, Patapsco, Perry Hall, Towson, Randallstown, and Woodlawn high schools will visit China, taking classes at the Tie Yi School in Xi'an, China, and saying with the families of Chinese students who stayed with the Baltimore County's students' families when they visited Maryland earlier this year. At 1:30 p.m., Dr. Hairston will join the families and friends of those students travelling to China to wish them well. They will meet in the ESS Building on the BCPS administrative campus of Greenwood, 6901 Charles Street, in Towson. The 30 travelers will board a bus at about 1:30 p.m. for the trip to Reagan National Airport in Washington.

Baltimore Music Educators Wind Symphony and Chorus to perform benefit concert at New Town High School
The Baltimore Music Educators Wind Symphony and Chorus, a concert assemblage of past, present, and future BCPS music educators, a gifted high school student, and several community musicians, as well as former BCPS choral students, will perform a benefit concert at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, in the New Town High School auditorium, 4931 New Town Boulevard in Owings Mills. All proceeds will benefit the Johns Hopkins Children's Center through Kids Helping Hopkins.Suggested donations of $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students will be accepted at the door.

Pine Grove Middle School to celebrate success in supporting Cancer Foundation

Pine Grove Middle School will host a celebratory assembly and breakfast at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 21, for being named the top donor to the American Children's Cancer Association this year. Through its Bowl-A-Thon and other events, the school and its students raised more than $19,000; Pine Grove Middle School has been among the top donors for the past five years. Joining the school in the celebration will be BCPS Superintendent Dr. Joe A. Hairston. The school is located at 9200 Old Harford Road in Parkville.

Weeklong Book Exchange promotes a love of reading at Milbrook Elementary School

Milbrook Elementary School will host a school-wide Book Exchange during the week of May 21 to May 25. Students may drop off books in good-condition in the school lobby on Monday, May 21, and Tuesday, May 22, as teachers record the number of books each student brings in to trade. Teachers will help students select books from the exchangeon Wednesday, May 23, and Thursday, May 24. Books that are left over will be donated to the Baltimore Humane Society's Towson BookHolders Book Drive event; 85 percent of the proceeds from The BookHolders eventare donated to the Humane Society's shelter. Tuesday, May 22

Deer Park Elementary School to host annual Spring Book Swap, Art Show, and Concert

Deer Park Elementary School will hold its annual Spring Book Swap, Art Show, and Concert on Tuesday, May 22, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the gymnasium at 9809 Lyons Mill Road, Owings Mills. Students will have an opportunity to swap books to gear up for summer reading. Families will also enjoy viewing artwork from all grade levels that will be displayed on the gym walls. At 7:00 p.m., the grade 4 and 5 chorus will perform, as well as the grade 5 band.

Hernwood Elementary School gears up for its annual Spring Concert

Hernwood Elementary School will host its annual Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 22, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the school, located at 9919 Marriottsville Road in Randallstown. The concert will feature performances by Hernwood's band and stringsand the school's grade 5singers. Grade 3 children will sing and perform a variety ofselections on recorder.

"Aladdin" takes flight on the boards at Featherbed Lane Elementary School

Families and friends of students at Featherbed Lane Elementary School are welcome to attend a performance of the play "Aladdin" on Tuesday, May 22, at 6:00 p.m. at the school, located at 6700 Richardson Road in Woodlawn.

"Perseverance" the theme of special Hillcrest Elementary School assembly

Students at Hillcrest Elementary School will share stories about and reflect on "perseverance" during a special assembly highlighted by a visit to the school from Congressman Elijah Cummings at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22. Students will share stories and illustrations of perseverance, while Congressman Cummings is scheduled to speak on the topic. The school is located at 615 Frederick Road in Catonsville.

Twenty-one years of giving away cars at Eastern Technical High School!

For 21 years, Eastern Technical High School and its business partners have donated a car to be awarded each spring to a deserving student. At 9:30 a.m. in the school's Eastern Inn, the tradition continues as a car, donated to the school by Al Packer White Marsh, is awarded to a student through a drawing of eligible students. Students earn chances for the prize each quarter they achieve honor roll and/or perfect or near-perfect attendance. Senator Kathy Klausmeier will be the school's guest of honor and will draw the winning name. Eastern Technical High School is located at 1100 Mace Avenue in Essex.

A day of field trip fun for students at Pine Grove Elementary School

Students from Pine Grove Elementary School will enjoy much of their learning outside the classroom on Wednesday, May 23, as two groups visit special locales as part of the school's field trip schedule. Pre-K students will journey to the Baltimore Museum of Art at 10 Art Museum Drive in Baltimore City to learn about great artists and their works. Meanwhile, grade 2 students will be heading to the Herr's Snack Factory in Nottingham, Pennsylvania, as a culmination of an economics unit. At the factory, students will observe the entire process of potato chip creation; in addition, they will be able to sample fresh, hot chips right off the production line.Please contact the school for additional details and specific times.

Winand Elementary School to "break in the 80s" during Spring Concert

Winand Elementary School will host "Breakin' in the 80s, Part II" for three shows on Wednesday, May 23, featuring the Winand Elementary School Choir under the direction of Sonya Lane. The first two shows will be 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the school, located at 8301 Scotts Level Road in Randallstown, while the third show will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Randallstown Community Center, 3505 Resource Drive, in Randallstown.

Sollers Point Technical High School to present students with certificates, scholarships at awards ceremony

Sollers Point Technical High School will host its annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 23, starting at 7:00 p.m. at Dundalk Middle School, located at 7400 Dunmanway in Dundalk. It's spring concert time at Milbrook Elementary School!

Milbrook Elementary School will hold its annual spring concert on Thursday, May 24, at 7:00 p.m. Grade 3 students will perform with their recorders, while grade 4 students will sing American songs.The school's grade 5 band and orchestra will also perform.Milbrook Elementary School is located at 4300 Crest Heights Road in Pikesville.

Timonium Elementary School to host STEM Career Fair

Children at Timonium Elementary School will have the opportunity to learn about dozens of careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics at the school's annual spring STEM Career Fair during the day on Thursday, May 24. Twenty-six presenters from STEM industries and careers will discuss their careers and the importance of STEM education with children. Presenters are from the school community, a local high school and middle school, universities, and a government agency, along with other agencies and local businesses. The school is located at 2001 Eastridge Road in Timonium.

Victory Villa Elementary School to dedicate its spring concert to "A Tribute to Heroes"

Victory Villa Elementary School will dedicate its spring concert, "A Tribute to Heroes," to all servicemen and women and to former Victory Villa teacher Bob Marchanti, who was killed in Afghanistan earlier this year serving his country. The concert, which will begin at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, will feature the grade 5 chorus and will include a wide variety of student involvement ranging from speaking, solo singing, dramatic sign language, and more. Volunteers will be honored at Pine Grove Elementary School, 2701 Summit Avenue in Parkville, on Friday, May 25, at 9:30 a.m. in the school's cafeteria. Students will entertain the volunteers with songs and poems as the school's volunteers will be recognized for their many hours of dedication to the Pine Grove school community.
