County students aspiring to become teachers invited to apply for scholarship loans

TOWSON, MD. - Applications for the Baltimore County Public Schools Scholarship Loan Program are now available online and in high schools for seniors interested in careers in education.

High school seniors interested in becoming middle or high school teachers in the critical shortage subject areas of mathematics, science, special education, or technology education are invited to apply. This program will provide a $4,000 scholarship loan to each award recipient. The scholarship loans will be awarded to those who enroll in approved teacher education programs at accredited institutions in Maryland. The award may be used for tuition, fees, books, or educational supplies.

The scholarship loan can be renewed for an additional $4,000 each year if the recipient continues to meet program guidelines. After earning a degree from an approved Maryland teacher education program, scholarship loan recipients agree to return to BCPS as teachers.

The application and program brochures are available in high school guidance offices and online at http://www.bcps.org/parents/pdf/BCPS-Scholarship-Program-Brochure.pdf
. The deadline to submit the application packet is April 2, 2010.
