Families of students entering 6th, 9th grades asked to verify residency

New Baltimore County Public Schools procedure begins this spring

What: Parents and guardians of Baltimore County Public Schools students entering the 6th and 9th grades (transitioning from elementary to middle school and from middle to high school) received letters earlier this month asking them to verify their children's residency. Before the end of this school year, parents must provide their child's current school with residency verification documents, as follows:

  • Photo identification
  • Lease or deed
  • Three pieces of mail sent to the home address within the last 60 days

All documents must reflect the same residency.

This procedure does not apply to shared domicile, homeless, or nonresident students, whose residency is verified annually.

When: Through Wednesday, June 11, 2008

Background:
This new procedure supports schools' efforts to maintain up-to-date residency records on all incoming students. Parents may review the list of accepted residency verification documents by reviewing BCPS Policy and Rule 5150, which are available on the Web at www.bcps.org/system/policies_rules/rules/5000Series/RULE5150.PDF
