Deasia Tillman to sing at Carnegie Hall

TOWSON, MD. – Deasia Tillman, a Grade 10 student at Milford Mill Academy, has been named a finalist in the High School Honors Concert Choir of the Honors Performance Series.

The choir is comprised of high school students from 48 U.S. states, Guam, Canada, Bermuda, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Mexico, Qatar, South Korea, and Taiwan.

As a member of the choir, Tillman will participate in the 2020 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall from January 30 – February 3. Activities will include working with master conductors, rehearsing and interacting with other finalists from around the world, participating in a celebration cruise on a private yacht, seeing a Broadway show, and touring New York City. The series will culminate with Tillman performing at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall on Sunday, Feb. 2.

Choir members are selected through a highly competitive process which includes a review of their biography, teacher nomination or recommendation, application, and 3- to 5-minute audition recording.

Tillman was a member of school choruses at Hillcrest Elementary School and Catonsville and Windsor Mill middle schools. She is a member of the Milford Mill Academy concert choir, and last school year, she participated in the Best of Maryland Arts Festival and the BCPS All Honors Jazz Choir. This school year, she was accepted into the BCPS All County Honors Chorus and the Towson University High School Choral Festival. She has studied with a private voice teacher for several years.
