Mind Over Matters program offers parents information about youth mental health, substance abuse issues

Free #BCPSCares event to be held at the Sheraton Towson on May 14

What: Parents, caregivers, and BCPS staff are invited to hear keynote speaker Frank Kros and participate in workshops aimed at better understanding the challenges facing students today, from opioids and Juuling/vaping to anxiety and depression. The event, which is free to the public, includes free parking and light fare.

When: Tuesday, May 14, from 5 - 8 p.m.

Background: Keynote speaker Frank Kros is president of Transformation Education Institute, director of the National-At-Risk Education Network, and executive vice president of The Children’s Guild, a Maryland-based, multi-service children's organization. A child advocate throughout his career, Kros has served as a childcare worker, child abuse investigator, children’s home administrator, consultant, college professor, attorney, writer, and speaker.

The event is being hosted by the BCPS Department of Social-Emotional Support and Parent University. Funded using an Opioid Awareness and Abuse Prevention Campaign grant from the Maryland State Department of Education, the event for parents and BCPS staff follows a conference on May 3 that involved more than 500 student leaders from across Baltimore County’s middle and high schools.
