Tyler Cargo

Tyler Cargo, LGSW, graduated from Gallaudet University’s School of Social Work in May of 2015 with an award showcasing his commitment to social justice. Mr. Cargo began working with Baltimore County Public Schools in August of 2015 as the School Social Worker at Holabird Middle School and Norwood Elementary School. At Holabird, Mr. Cargo is involved in various school programs and initiatives including Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), the PBIS Mentor Program, and the Equity Team.  At Norwood Elementary School, he is a part of the Leadership Team, Rapid Response Team, Attendance Team, and the brand new Project Bus initiative.

Mr. Cargo works with students in both group and individual settings, focusing on aspects of social-emotional learning such as emotion awareness and management, coping strategies, social skills, and on-task strategies for the classroom. He enjoys using technology to keep students engaged and having fun.

Mr. Cargo has a strong passion for cultural competency and conflict resolution techniques. He recently worked with the school psychologist to facilitate a discussion amongst Holabird staff regarding cultural competency and relationship building, and how they play a critical role in conflict resolution amongst teenage students.

One of the biggest reasons that Mr. Cargo enjoys working in the Baltimore County school setting is that he has the opportunity to connect students and families to resources that can help them to succeed not only in the classroom, but also much further on in life. He also enjoys supporting families in reinforcing social-emotional learning at home. In a short amount of time, Mr. Cargo has had the opportunity to connect and develop relationships with numerous families to provide resources and support, making a significant and positive impact in the Holabird and Norwood communities.
