Spotlight

Tambra Chisolm began her career in Baltimore County Public Schools as one of the first ten school social workers in 1993. During her tenure, Ms. Chisolm has served Shady Spring, Mars Estates, Halstead Academy, Stoneleigh, and Oakleigh Elementary Schools as well as the following middle schools: Cockeysville, Ridgely and Loch Raven Academy.  Currently, Ms. Chisolm serves Halstead Academy full-time, with Stoneleigh and Oakleigh Elementary Schools and Cockeysville Middle School served on an itinerant basis. Ms. Chisolm has also served on the Traumatic Loss Team since 1997.

Ms. Chisolm especially enjoys collaborating with school staff to promote successful student learning, conducting home visits, mobilizing community resources to support students and their families, and providing social work case management. Some of Ms. Chisolm’s work includes activities outside of the scope of social work-related duties, including the creation of a pictorial display for Black History Month that has provided the entire school community an opportunity to grow in knowledge about the many achievements of African Americans.

A recent partnership with the Girl Scouts of America – Central Maryland facilitated a Girl Scout Lunch Bunch that supports girls from grades 2 through 5 in building confidence, self-esteem and awareness of self in their environment. This establishment has been well received by the girls and their parents alike. Case management activities include but are not limited to teaching Second Step to fourth grade, the provision of Breast Cancer Awareness information, and the provision of food baskets and emergency food through a partnership with the Maryland Food Bank. Additionally, partnering with Loch Raven United Methodist Church, Santa’s Anonymous, St. Michael’s Lutheran Church and the AVID Program at Parkville HS has benefitted Ms. Chisolm’s students and their families in a great number of ways.
