Academic achievements/trends

To date:

713 students who have increased their grades by 5 points or more for MAP testing.
258 students who have increased their grades by 10 points or more for MAP testing.

569 students have met the Growth Projection.

There are 369 students whose grades have increased by one letter grade or more from first to second quarter.

Sports teams at the school have won a number of county championships. The list includes:

“Our basketball team is so good that it draws recruiters from private and Catholic high schools. Seven of 10 current players have been recruited.”

“Our Grade 8 student Jordan Toles (Class of 2020) is the 3rd ranked middle school player in the nation.”  

Student artwork has been selected for display throughout the area:

Eight students’ artworks are featured at Walters Art Gallery.

Ten pieces of artwork are featured at Owings Mills High School in the feeder show exhibit.

Six pieces of artwork are displayed in the Patapsco Middle School juried show.

Two pieces of artwork are on display at the Baltimore Museum of Art.

Special academic programs

Deer Park offers a full magnet program that includes dance, Spanish, earth space science, band/orchestra, choir, the arts, and mass communications.

The school’s STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) program infuses art with science in five outdoor classrooms.

Popular/unique extracurricular activities

“We have a National Junior Honor Society.”

“In the Kids for Kids program, students are able to complete service-learning hours while in middle school.”

Special school traditions

Before Thanksgiving Day, students and staff collect canned goods for the Maryland Food Bank. This school year they collected more 1,000 cans.

The annual Holiday Blitz provides food and gifts for families that need additional support.

“We also hold an annual awards day ceremony and holiday door decorating contest.”

All Grade 6 students spend a week at NorthBay Adventure Camp.

All Grade 7 students visit Medieval Times.

All Grade 8 students take a Spirit Cruise in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
