Dena Shuster, has been a social worker for BCPS for eight years. Mrs. Shuster joined BCPS after interning for the county during her first year at Gallaudet University. She has worked at Ridgley Middle, Patapsco High, and Rosedale Alternative and has also covered for Towson High and Holabird Middle. Mrs. Shuster is currently assigned to the countywide cluster program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) based at Parkville High School.

As the itinerant social worker assigned to the DHH program Mrs. Shuster works with children, ages of birth to 21. She also provides support to parents who are deaf or hard of hearing. Mrs. Shuster serves children and families in the capacity of providing education resources and advocacy, as well as to help individuals’ understand the implication of hearing loss. She facilitates workshops and presentations demonstrating sign language, and educates others about the implications of hearing loss related to the social and emotional needs of children. Mrs. Shuster also travels to local colleges to speak to undergraduate students about the field of social work for the deaf and hard of hearing.
