Elmwood Elementary School to compete in Odyssey of the Mind world finals

Elmwood Elementary School’s Odyssey of the Mind team has qualified for the World Finals after taking first place at the Maryland / DC State Tournament.

The students at Elmwood selected from one of five long-term “problems” and formed a team to develop a solution. The team met after school all year working together on their problem, which was an engineering problem called “The Stackable Structure.”

Founded in 1978, Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem-solving program for students from kindergarten through college, attracting students from 49 states, the District of Columbia and more than 30 countries. Odyssey of the Mind competitions involve creative exercises in which teamwork, cooperation, and ingenuity are applied to complete various tasks.

The Odyssey of the Mind World Finals will be held at the University of Iowa from May 28 – May 31, 2014. Elmwood Elementary is the only team representing Baltimore County Public Schools.
