Deep Creek Elementary celebrated 50 years of serving the community on Friday, November 22, 2013.  The event opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner by the 5th Grade Vocal Ensemble.  The student body enthusiastically sang the school song "We Love Deep Creek."  Four former principals, Kathleen East, Mary Ann Rigopoulos, Anissa Brown Dennis, and Darla Evans, participated along with current principal Sharon Mason.  Each principal shared special memories spanning back to 1981 and each encouraged students to become leaders.   Principals were presented with nameplates that will be permanently displayed on a perpetual plaque.  Students presented tributes to Deep Creek Elementary in song.

The event concluded with filling a time capsule with artifacts to reflect current school experiences including a copy of Blueprint 2.0, a school newsletter and lunch menu, cards and letters from students, a DCES Math Masters T-Shirt, newspaper clippings celebrating successes, an instrumental music pin, and a frog mascot.  A flash drive with the video slide presentation was placed in the time capsule as well.  Since technology will likely change dramatically in 25 or 50 years, a photo of a laptop with the flash drive was also included.
