The students at Ridge Ruxton School have had a long relationship with the League of Dreams, an organization that annually visits the Towson special needs school to enjoy a day of baseball-related physical activities with students.

But on September 16, a visit from League President Frank Kolarek came with a twist. Through a program with the U.S. State Department, visiting athletes from Libya joined in the fun and spent a morning at Ridge Ruxton working with students on their catching, throwing and batting skills.

During a physical education class led by teacher Sue Beer and Linda Webbert of the BCPS Office of Physical Education, the Libyans and Ridge Ruxton students not only worked on their skills but finished the visit with a baseball game.

In addition to leaving with the memory of meeting the remarkable students at Ridge Ruxton, the Libyan visitors also had an opportunity to receive hand-made school crafts from Ridge Ruxton students.

“The learning experience provided an opportunity for our students to participate in a motor activity, and our visitors to learn about our educational programs,” said school Principal Ed Bennett.
