Spotlights

What’s the best way to introduce the present to the past? Through technology, of course!

On Monday, June 3, 2013, Grade 5 students at Oliver Beach Elementary School participated in a Skype session with an expert from the Maryland Historical Society (MDHS). Students learned about the role of historians by critically analyzing primary and secondary sources associated with the founding of Maryland. Among the sources were documents from settlers – both land owners and indentured servants – and a painting from the 1800s.

This was the first time the Historical Society has partnered with a school for distance learning, so Oliver Beach Elementary was excited to help the Society “test-drive” this developing program and can’t wait to work with MDHS again in the future!
