BCPS Salute to Custodians, Groundskeepers, Maintenance Personnel & Security Guards Day
05/31/2013

Spotlight

The last Friday of every May is designated in Baltimore County Public Schools as a day to recognize BCPS custodians, groundskeepers, maintenance personnel and security guards for their work to maintain the approximately 200 buildings (including schools, offices and warehouses) on 4,000 acres that are part of the school system.

Here are a few facts you might not know:

  • Grounds employees maintain everything outside of the school including but not limited to, caring for grass, artificial turf, playgrounds, trees, sidewalks, parking lots, tracks, fencing, bulk trash and snow removal, signage, hard surface courts and assisting with office moves and emergencies.

  • Maintenance workers handle, on average, about 30,000 work orders each year, dealing with environmental issues, plumbing, electrical work, security issues and door and roof repairs.

Please thank these vital members of the BCPS staff for keeping schools, offices, facilities, and grounds clean, safe, and well-maintained every day, and for their extra work over the summer months doing larger repairs and making sure schools are sparkling clean for the first day of school.
