“No Bullies Allowed” play and Kindness Day held at New Town Elementary School

Students performers in “No Bullies”

New Town Elementary hosted a big school production entitled “No Bullies Allowed” on Friday April 26, 2013.

The play was written and directed by Desiree Sessions, a kindergarten teacher at New Town Elementary, to raise awareness about the different types of bullying and to send a strong message that bullying will not be tolerated. While the play conveyed a strong anti-bullying theme, it was also very entertaining with performances by singers, dancers, and actors in Grades 2–5.

The students performed twice during the school day for their peers, and in the evening for their families and the community. Proceeds from the show will support technology needs at New Town Elementary.

In collaboration with the play, the entire day was named Kindness Day. Math resource teacher Michelle Madera and Grade 4 teacher Kim Peck came up with the idea to name it Kindness Day and worked collectively to provide activity resources for teachers and students.
