Up and down the aisles of the Middle River Food Lion, Hawthorne Elementary School students participated in scavenger hunts that required them to compare amounts, make measurements, find patterns, calculate and estimate costs, practice addition, and apply multiplication skills.

The event was a Family Math Night, held on Tuesday, April 24, and coordinated by Hawthorne teachers Ashley Morin and Megan Frank. More than 150 students and their families and more than 20 teachers and staff members from Hawthorne participated. During the two-hour evening event, each grade level had their own specific scavenger hunt involving multiple math activities. All participating students and teachers received goody bags featuring math workbooks and prizes.
