Where do you think there is excitement and laughter after 4:15 p.m. on a school day?  If you guessed the 21st Century Program at Hernwood Elementary School, you are right. Students who are part of the program are provided with afterschool tutoring three days a week that includes one hour of instruction in core subjects and one hour of enrichment.

The 21st Century Program is a federally funded program that provides academic enrichment opportunities to students that will allow them to become proficient or advanced in the core subjects of reading and math. The program offers a broad array of enrichment activities such as art, technology and gym that complement the students' academic subjects. The next phase of Hernwood's 21st Century Program is to offer literacy and other educational services to the families of participating students.
