Battle Grove Elementary School ended 2012 with a visit from a very special and inspirational guest.
On December 18, 2012, Baltimore Ravens Center Matt Birk stopped by Battle Grove’s Reading Rally to help the school kickoff its 2012 Scholastic Book Fair. Birk spoke to students about the importance of reading and the role it played in helping him reach his goals of attending Harvard University and playing in the NFL.
Birk also donated 350 Scholastic Book Fair vouchers from the HIKE Foundation, which he founded. These vouchers allowed each Battle Grove student to purchase a book at the fair. Birk took the time to talk to some of the students individually about his love for reading and their reading interests.
Battle Grove students showed their appreciation to Birk and their support of the Ravens by wearing purple and black and performing Ravens-themed cheers and songs. The exciting event was enjoyed by all of the Battle Grove students, staff, and community members present.
