On Wednesday, October 17, 2012, Seventh District Elementary School hosted its “Mental Math Night” for Grade 3 mathematics students.

During the event, students assumed the responsibilities of their mathematics teachers by developing lesson plans for their parents and guardians, who served as students for the evening. The lesson plans, comprised of games and other interactive activities, incorporated mental math and problem-solving strategies learned in the classroom. Those in attendance adopted the skills and techniques modeled by the third graders and challenged one another in the provided games and activities.

In the weeks leading up to the event, Martha Wingeart and Travis Knox, two Grade 3 teachers, assisted the students in refining their mental math tactics and forming their lesson plans.
