Kenwood High School's Sports Science Academy was recognized for its charitable donations at the 27th Annual Orioles Hall of Fame Luncheon held at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Friday, August 24, 2012.  Represented by teacher and program coordinator Jennifer Cox, the Sports Science Academy was acknowledged for being among the top seven contributors to the Orioles Advocates' Cardboard to Leather program in 2012. This program collects used sports equipment, refurbishes it, and sends it to youth programs in countries such as Afghanistan, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela.

Kenwood has taken part in Cardboard to Leather for two years and was the only school recognized for its participation.  Under the supervision of Ms. Cox, students collected more than 1,700 pieces of equipment from community recreational league teams, neighbors, friends, and family. They then sorted, organized, counted, and packaged the items for delivery to the Orioles Advocates.
