Jessica Baron:  Towson High School, 3.0 GPA, Towson University, career goal, teacher

In celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Baltimore County Public Schools’ Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) program, the 2012 Dr. Jessie L. Douglas AVID Scholarship Award was established. Based on public donations and matching funds by Dr. Douglas, this scholarship award was initiated. Criteria for the award included academic achievement, 3.0 GPA; leadership, community service, documented acceptance at a college or university, and recommendation by the AVID coordinator/teacher.

The 2012 AVID seniors who received the scholarship awards are:

Jessica Baron:  Towson High School, 3.0 GPA, Towson University, career goal, teacher
Benjamin Chang, Pikesville High School, 3.6 GPA, career goal, Ph.D in Astrophysics
Valerie Honeycutt:  Parkville High School, 3.4 GPA, career goal, corporate lawyer
Temitope Oyeleke: Chesapeake High School, 4.0 GPA, Hampton University, career goal, pharmacist
Nissa Siddiqui:  Catonsville High School, 3.4 GPA, career goal, pediatrician
Breanna Sloan:  Patapsco High School, 3.8 GPA, Salisbury University, career goal, nurse
