Southwest Academy celebrates Black History Month

Students and staff at Southwest Academy Magnet School for Science and Engineering celebrate Black History Month.  Contributions and achievements of Harlem Renaissance era and artists were highlighted. To celebrate this era and the talents of many African American artists, musicians, and authors, an exhibit consisting of three large banners was displayed in the front lobby of the school.  Quotes from literary works and pictures of various artists visually enlightened the school community. Throughout the month, student tours and skits brought this exhibit alive and enhanced student learning. These activities culminated with a school wide essay contest sponsored by the Language Arts Department.
