New Town High School students Aminata Y. Traore, David S. Copeland, and Yemi Bankole triumphed against teams from Western High School (from Baltimore City) and Long Reach High School (from Howard County) on “It’s Academic.” The show aired on WJZ-TV at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011.

“It's Academic,” the nation’s foremost high school quiz program, tests contestants on questions covering literature, current events, science, mathematics, history, and more. The Guinness Book of World Records has recognized “It's Academic” as the longest-running television quiz show in the world, and the show has won eight Emmy Awards and three Golden Mikes.

The show is sponsored locally by Giant Food and Morgan State University. To honor the team and the whole school, Giant Food featured special "New Town High School Garden Tuna Salad" at the Giant Store at Owings Mill New Town (9730 Groffs Mill Drive).
