The Ben Carson Reading Project is the second program of the Carson Scholars Fund. The primary purpose of the program is to provide funding and support to local schools so that they can create a nurturing environment for a child to feel safe and secure as they develop their reading skills.

In Baltimore County, the new Reading Room at Jacksonville is the fourth to open in a BCPS school. The other three are at Villa Cresta Elementary, Wellwood International, and Norwood. The Reading Room at Jacksonville has the theme of “the meadow,” which relates to the school’s outdoor learning environment and the fact that it is a green school. The room is sponsored by Proctor & Gamble.
