Thirty-one art magnet students at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts engaged in a project with the Baltimore Chapter of AIGA, an association of graphic designers and artists. For four Fridays in October, AIGA designers visited and worked with students at the school on the national
Design Ignites Change project called "Create, Don't Hate."
Through the project, students created slogans and logos to encourage citizens to stop crime, prevent violence, care for the community, and develop tolerance. Students were empowered not only by gaining real-life experience in the art world, but also by taking part as members in their global community.
Five designs from Patapsco students were selected to become billboards in the Baltimore metropolitan area. The student artists responsible for the winning designs are Bernadette Szrom, Sarah Henry, Erika Shaddock, Samantha Panuska, Ryan Pachilis, Jessica Searfino, Jeremy Jirsa, Ginger Corbett, Chance Moody, Emily Baum, and Amy Louden.
