Baltimore County Public Schools students have plenty of talents to share, and at this time of the year, they have an abundance of holiday spirit as well. On the eve of the school system’s Christmas/Winter Break, both talent and spirits rose in song as choral students from Dulaney High School came to the Greenwood administration building to celebrate the season.
In what has become a holiday tradition, student groups from across Baltimore County schools visit the school system headquarters to join with Superintendent Dr. Joe A. Hairston and his staff in singing a few seasonal favorites.
This year, the Dulaney Chamber Singers performed a variety of holiday music both jaunty and pensive. After leading the group in performing a selection of songs, Dulaney High School Music Director Scott Frutchey closed the December 22 program by inviting the audience to sing along. After thanking the students and remarking on their skills, Dr. Hairston greeted students and staff and invited the singers to share refreshments.
The quality of the Dulaney’s group musical performance is representative of Baltimore County’s nationally-recognized school music education program. The nation’s leading music education and advocacy organizations have honored Baltimore County as one of the 100 top communities in the nation for music education for four out of the past five years.
