They can develop curriculum, manage budgets, initiate new programs, analyze data, coordinate strategic planning, and more – but can administrators with Baltimore County Public Schools sing? That was the question on the educators’ minds when Eric Christian, music teacher at Sudbrook Magnet Middle School, asked staff at school system headquarters in Towson to join his students in singing a few seasonal favorites.
Every year, in celebration of the winter holidays, students visit the Greenwood administration building to serenade Superintendent Dr. Joe A. Hairston and his staff. This year, 30 Sudbrook students performed – all of them students in Christian’s Level 2 and Level 3 vocal music classes. After leading the group in performing several songs, Christian closed the program by inviting the audience to sing along.

The quality of the Sudbrook’s group musical performance is representative of Baltimore County’s nationally-recognized school music education program. In 2004, 2006, and 2007, the nation’s leading music education and advocacy organizations honored Baltimore County as one of the 100 top communities in the nation for music education.
According to Sudbrook Principal Dr. Sharon Robbins – who also attended the students’ performance, “Sudbrook’s performing arts magnet program draws students from 42 different elementary schools, and we are very grateful and proud that they want to be a part of our legacy of academic and artistic excellence.”
