School celebrates reading – with everyone in pajamas!

Mars Stars Come Out At Night
Mars Elementary students show off their pajamas at Reading Night.

More than 100 people attended reading night at Mars Estates Elementary School on October 12. That may sound impressive, but even more impressive is that they showed up in their pajamas!  Students, teachers, and even parents were at the school reading in their PJs.

During “Read with Your Child Night” at Mars Estates, there were events for every grade level. Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students enjoyed a “read aloud” as teachers read them bedtime stories. Families of 4th and 5th grade students gained valuable information on how best to help their older students with reading comprehension and homework.

Finally, 1st through 3rd grade parents had the opportunity to hear about the school’s 100 Book Challenge Program. This supplementary program fosters independent reading skills with both home and school components. Parents had the opportunity to practice how to ask good questions when their children read at home.

The evening ended with milk and cookies and a free book for each student to take home.
