During the winter months, administrators at the Baltimore County Public Schools' Greenwood campus are often concerned about snow and other inclement weather. But on December 22, they welcomed hearing the tune "Here Comes the Snow," part of the joyous sounds of the Mo' Arts Kids singing group from Stemmers Run Middle School.
In celebration of the winter holiday season, 25 members of this popular group entertained Superintendent Joe A. Hairston and other county school administrators and staff with several songs.
Directed by music teacher Bishop Moore, Mo'Arts Kids is an afterschool choral arts organization for vocal students at Stemmers Run. It was designed to provide an extension of the daily choral program to offer advanced vocal students with opportunities for additional vocal performances. The group performs at Stemmers Run, in surrounding communities, and out of state. Earlier this year, the students performed at Baltimore County's Waterfront Festival; next summer, they are scheduled to perform at Hershey Park. The program is funded by donations and fundraisers.
The group is representative of Baltimore County's nationally-recognized school music education program. In 2004, the nation's leading music education and advocacy organizations honored Baltimore County as one of the 100 top communities in the nation for music education.
