Baltimore County Student Councils Holds Annual Bull Roast/Recognition

Dr. Hairston congratulates James Thanner, Overlea High, on being named BCSC Principal of the Year.

The Baltimore County Student Councils (BCSC) held its annual end-of-year Bull Roast/Recognition event on Thursday, May 8, 2003 at Oregon Ridge Park.
Over 300 secondary students, advisors, administrators, and board of education members joined together to recognize the outgoing BCSC Executive Board members, outstanding student council advisors, and special activity advisors.

The BCSC Principal of the Year award was presented to James Thanner of Overlea High School, for his continued support and steadfast involvement in student activities. Thaddeus Price, Milford Mill Academy, was named BCSC Advisor of the Year for his dedication and determination to improve the SGA in his school this past year.

A special highlight of the program was the awarding of two $1,000 BCSC scholarships to two deserving seniors. Laurel Stockdale of Perry Hall High School won the $1,000 scholarship for her middle and high school years of constant dedication to the student council programs and participation on the school, county, and state levels.

The second $1,000 BCSC Scholarship was awarded to Sarah Bormel, Carver Center for Arts and Technology. Sarah not only served as president of her school SGA, but also served a year term as the BCPS Student Member on the Board of Education.

Outgoing student president, Amethyst Danesie of Perry Hall High School, delivered her state-of-the-county speech, which highlighted the many achievements of BCSC during the 2002-03 school year. Lia Evans, Sparrows Point High, presented a year-in-review slide show that spotlighted each BCSC event throughout the year .

The final highlight of the program was the swearing-in of the newly elected officers for the 2003-04 school year by Superintendent Dr. Joe Hairston. At the conclusion of the program, attendees adjourned outside for a picnic, dance and recreation.
